August 2/3/4 - Grand Manan
We had such a great time on Grand Manan last weekend that we've decided to do it again. September 19 - 20th high tide is around noon. Whales like to follow the incoming tide. That's where the food is.

On Monday, during our paddle between Whale Cove and the Swallowtail Lighthouse, we saw several Finback whales, a Humpback whale breaching in the distance and lots of porpoises, seals and sea birds. The water was soft and flat with a gentle swell and you could see to the edge of infinity.

I have suggested to some novice kayakers that Grand Manan might be too dangerous for them. That is wrong. We'll paddle in favorable conditions and take care of each other.

All are welcome,

Don

August 08 - Wolfe Point to Alma
We had a challenging paddle on Sunday. Giselle, Kilby, Andy, Marc and I made it out. We decided to paddle from the covered bridge at Point Wolfe to Alma. We were in our kayaks around 1:30 pm, 50 minutes before high tide. The Bay was still rocking. There was a strong breeze from the southeast. We made it around Point Wolfe ok and headed up the coast. At this point the wind and the waves were hitting us from behind. Things started to calm down when we reached Squaws Cap. One paddler got wet going through but there was no harm done. Things got considerable less tumultuous after that and the rest of the paddle was very pleasant. All were please that they had faced this challenge. It is becoming clear that, if you want to avoid "the tempest," the best time to paddle the Bay of Fundy is from just after high tide.

August 12 - Buctouche Dunes - North End - Saint Edouard de Kent
We had  nine show up for this relaxing paddle.  It was one of those evenings where you were glad to be out on the water, but not really in the mood for doing any distance, so we only did 8.65km.
Thomas was right, there are 55 wind turbines at the West Cape, PEI wind farm.

Cormorants

August 15 - Aboiteau Wharf
OK, maybe 32ºC is a little hot for paddling, as only two of us showed up.
No pictures, we just played in the waves.

August 19 - Cap-de-Cocagne
What a great paddle, if a tad hot.  Five of us paddled over to Cocagne Island, and about 3/4 of the way up it, for a total length of 9.2km.

Great Blue Heron

August 26 - Le Pays de la Sagouine from Little Buctouche River and a BBQ
Nice 10K paddle.  Fifteen turned out for this paddle in a light breeze.  Probably the lure of the BBQ afterwards.

August 29 - Kouchibouguac Grey Seal Adventure
We had 11 turn out for this 14km paddle, and we almost made it back to port before it started to shower.
